What to plant in September
What is Home Harvest? Home Harvest is an Australian edible-garden app for iPhone and Android. Enter a postcode or suburb, the app matches it to one of eight Australian climate zones, and it shows which of 151 vegetables, herbs, fruit and native edibles are best to plant now, good to plant now, or worth waiting on — for balconies, pots, raised beds and backyard patches. It works offline, needs no account and has no ads or tracking.
The windows below are broad and indicative. The app narrows them to your postcode, sunlight and growing spaces, and flags what to avoid now. See all eight climate zones.
Broad beans, peas, lettuce and spinach under cover, onions, potatoes as frost risk passes
Lettuce, rocket, beetroot, silverbeet, spring onions, coriander; start tomatoes and capsicum in a warm spot
Tomatoes, capsicum, beans, cucumber, zucchini, basil, sweet corn
Leafy Asian greens, sweet potato, snake beans, ginger and turmeric ahead of the wet season

From garden plan to fresh food
Home Harvest helps Australian families plan an edible garden suited to their local growing season, with simple guidance for every step.

Home Harvest is an educational gardening guide based on broadly available Australian planting knowledge and shared horticultural practice. It does not claim that its content was supported, certified, endorsed or approved by a horticulturist.
Planting windows are broad climate-zone guides. Actual results vary with cultivar, soil, altitude, frost, rainfall, humidity, wet season, local weather, protected growing and garden microclimate. Safety-sensitive questions must direct users to appropriate product labels and local or state/territory authorities.
